Gift Aid

Boost your donation by 25p for every £1 you donate - it won’t cost you a penny extra.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a scheme from HM Revenue & Customs that allows us to reclaim an extra 25% on your donations made during the past 4 years, as well as on all future donations, without costing you a penny. This means that for every £1 you donate to Scripture Union, the charity gets an extra 25p.

Do I qualify for Gift Aid?

To be eligible to sign up for Gift Aid you must be a UK taxpayer and pay an amount of income and/or capital gains tax - at least equal to the tax that all charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs will reclaim in the tax year of your donation. This also applies if you pay tax on your savings, pension plan or investment income but taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify. If you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on your donations in the tax year, you’ll be responsible for paying any difference.

Please note that if your circumstances change and you no longer pay tax, you'll need to let us know. You can find out how in our FAQs below.

How do I Gift Aid my donations?

It's really simple, all we need from you is a single Gift Aid declaration, which will not only cover your future donations but also donations you have made for the past 4 years

To make your declaration, you can either:

  • Complete our online Gift Aid declaration on this page.
  • Download the Scripture Union Gift Aid donation form (PDF) below, complete it and send it back to us: Freepost SCRIPTURE UNION
  • Or alternatively, you can call our Supporter Care team on 01908 856000 and we'll send you a form through the post.

*This includes any donations that I have made in the last four years, and all donations that I make in the future. I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference. (Thus I will need to have paid 25p of tax per £1 of gift that I wish to Gift Aid in each financial year.)  I will notify Scripture Union if I want to cancel this declaration, change my name or home address or no longer pay sufficient tax on my Income and/or Capital Gains. I understand my billing address will be used as my home address. (If this is not the case please contact our customer service team)

Other Gift Aid FAQs

What is a Gift Aid declaration?
A Gift Aid declaration is a statement made by an individual taxpayer confirming that they would like Scripture Union to reclaim tax on their donations.

How long does the declaration last for?
A Gift Aid declaration covers past, present and future donations made to Scripture Union. We can claim Gift Aid on past donations that have been made in the last four years and we can continue to claim Gift Aid unless you tell us otherwise.

Can I Gift Aid a specific donation?
Yes, certainly. If you can only Gift Aid a particular donation we can ensure that this happens. Just call our Supporter Care Team on 01908 856000 and they will be happy to help.

Can I claim Gift Aid on my company's donation?
Gift Aid can be claimed on donations from individuals. Company donations do not qualify for Gift Aid.

What if I pay a higher rate of tax?
If you pay a higher tax rate, you can claim the difference between the higher rate (40%) and basic rate (20%) on the total value of your donation, which you can pass on to the charity.

Please visit the HMRC website to find out more about claiming back higher rate tax.

What if my situation changes and/or I want to change or cancel my Gift Aid declaration?
Please notify Scripture Union if you want to cancel, change your name or home address, or no longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains. You can do this by contacting our Supporter Care Team on 01908 856000 or by updating your details on your My SU account.
