A new President for Scripture Union

This November marks an important moment for Scripture Union as we give thanks for nine years of faithful service and welcome a new President.

Portrait for the Scripture Union President story

Scripture Union’s President chairs our Council, a group of volunteers and leaders who help shape the spiritual vision and future direction of the movement. It’s an important role, providing wisdom, encouragement and spiritual leadership as we seek to follow where God is leading us.

After nine years as President, Penny Boshoff will step down this November, having generously given her time and wisdom in service of Scripture Union and our mission.

Reflecting on her time as President, Penny says:

“It’s been a joy to serve Scripture Union’s Council and to see how the Lord is blessing and growing SU’s Revealing Jesus strategy. Hearing from SU’s Faith Guides about children and young people meeting Jesus and telling others about him spurs me on to keep praying, giving and serving alongside SU’s many volunteers. What a privilege to work together for Jesus’ kingdom!”

We’re enormously grateful for all Penny has brought to Scripture Union over many years, with her nine years as President forming just part of a much longer story of service. She has given generously of her time and wisdom, faithfully supporting and encouraging the movement as we’ve continued to focus on reaching children and young people beyond the church with the good news of Jesus.

Welcome Clare!

From 7 November, Clare Walker will become Scripture Union’s new President.

Clare already knows and loves the movement well, having served Scripture Union over many years as both a volunteer and trustee. She now steps into this role, eager to continue serving God through the movement and its mission.

“It feels like a God-given opportunity to give back to the movement in a new way. Please pray that I’ll be able to effectively serve both God and the movement I love so much through this role.” - Clare

Dave Newton, Scripture Union’s National Director, says:

“We’re delighted that Clare has agreed to serve Scripture Union as our new President. Clare brings a deep love for God, a real heart for SU’s mission and many years of experience within the movement. As we look to the future, I’m reminded of Paul’s words that ‘neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow’. We’re so thankful for the faithful part Penny has played over these past nine years, and we look forward to all that God will do through Clare as she takes up the role.”

As one President finishes her term and another begins, there is much to be thankful for and much to pray for.

Please join us in giving thanks to God for Penny, for nine years of faithful service, for the time and wisdom she has given so generously, and for the encouragement and leadership she has brought to Scripture Union.

And please pray for Clare as she begins this new chapter on 7 November. Pray for wisdom and discernment as she chairs the Council, for joy in serving, and that God will use her gifts and experience as we continue to create opportunities for children and young people to discover Jesus and grow in faith.

We’re deeply thankful for them both.
