SU around the world

Scripture Union is a global movement active in over 120 countries. A movement of volunteers, staff, like-minded partners, supporters and many more, all with a common heart and desire to see Jesus' love shared with the youngest generations.

At an international gathering in 1985 in Harare Zimbabwe, Scripture Union leaders from around the world agreed the aims, belief statement, and working principles as a framework for all National movements.

As a community of God’s people worldwide, each Scripture Union Movement (including Scripture Union England and Wales) is committed to:

  • Making God's Good News known to children, young people and families; and
  • Encouraging people of all ages to meet God daily through the Bible and prayer, so that they may come to personal faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, grow in Christian maturity and become both committed church members and servants of a world in need.

Scripture Union pursues these aims through a variety of ministries around the world in obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ in reliance on the Holy Spirit.

God’s big story transforming young lives

Scripture Union has a variety of specialist ministries all designed to help children, young people and families come to know Jesus Christ and to learn more about God through the Bible. The work is carried out through local people in ways that are appropriate to their country, culture and situation and include a whole range of ministries listed below from camps, holidays and school clubs to values education and Bible reading resources. With the majority of SU Movements employing a small staff team who train, support and equip a large number of volunteers.

As part of the global community each SU Movement has a responsibility to nurture SU’s shared vision, to support the development of SU in other countries, and care for the well-being and reputation of SU in recognition of our belonging and interdependence.

SU Global Team

Whilst each Scripture Union movement is led and governed by nationals of their own country to ensure contextualised ministry, it is the Scripture Union Global Team and Global Board who support, coordinate, and facilitate the development of Scripture Union worldwide.

You can find contact information, ministry listings, and other useful information about each country and its SU movement on the Scripture Union International website.

SU International on Facebook

God is on the move in the lives of children and young people around the world and you can discover more by following Scripture Union International on Facebook.

Scripture Union International is a UK based charity supporting the network of independent national SU movements in ministry, sustainability and through developing community and partnerships.

A brief history

Scripture Union started in 1867 with one individual who saw an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus with children and young people.

In 1960, leadership of the movement changed from Scripture Union in England, to the newly formed Scripture Union International Council. This co-operative, non-hierarchical model was far ahead of its time and under this new structure, Scripture Union grew rapidly around the world.

By 1985, Scripture Union was present in over 70 countries and it was agreed that more was needed to ensure the unity of the Movement. The aims, belief statement, and working principles were created and in the late 80s and 90s, Scripture Union again experienced tremendous growth across the globe.

SU England and Wales

Here at Scripture Union England and Wales, we are passionate about creating opportunities for children and young people to explore the Bible, respond to Jesus and grow in faith.

It is through our clear vision, mission and priority that we are able to outwork the aims, beliefs and working principles of the global movement in a way that makes sense for the children and young people of England and Wales.
