Philippians 4:6 encourages us to bring our prayers with thanksgiving. For what blessings do you want to thank God today?
Bible passage
1 The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength;
indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.
2 Your throne was established long ago;
you are from all eternity.
3 The seas have lifted up, Lord,
the seas have lifted up their voice;
the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,
mightier than the breakers of the sea –
the Lord on high is mighty.
5 Your statutes, Lord, stand firm;
holiness adorns your house
for endless days.

As with last Sunday’s psalm, Psalm 93 reflects the period after the Exile. Classified as an enthronement psalm, it doesn’t look to a human figure to express God’s kingship in Jerusalem. Rather, it professes that the Lord is King over the whole world (v 1). God’s majesty can be discerned from his regal robes (Isaiah 6:1) and being armed with strength (v 1). Both of these contribute to a sense that the world is secure. How does your view of God help you feel secure in today’s world?
The waters were seen as agents of chaos that resist God’s reign. His kingship is seen particularly in the way the waters, whether seas or rivers, accept his rule. Even when they rise up, powerfully and threateningly, they cannot throw off his authority. They must do his bidding even as they did when Israel left Egypt (Exodus 15:1–6), taking us right back before the Exile to the Exodus where Israel’s story began.
Not only is the Lord the King of the whole earth, this has always been the case. His throne (v 2) and his statutes (v 5) are firmly established in both holiness and eternity. There is no other to compare: the Lord, as King, is to be worshipped and adored. What attributes of the Lord as King cause you to worship and adore him?

Jesus talked about God’s kingdom coming to and through us by the Holy Spirit (see Matthew 10:7; 12:28). How are you praying for God’s kingly reign to be expressed in and through you?
