Sing, or listen to, a worship song that helps you connect with God.
Bible passage
A psalm. For giving grateful praise.
1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good and his love endures for ever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Psalm 100 is something of a TARDIS. Short yet skilfully crafted, every packed line supports a breathtaking vision of worship. As he invites us towards God, the psalmist engages deepening aspects of who we are: our words, our actions (in verse 2, ‘worship’ can be translated as ‘serve’), our presence (vs 1,2). There, before the only true God, we remember that it is he who has chosen us to be his people. Shouting for joy seems apt in response to this. How else might we express our gratitude reading this psalm today?
Another journey of increasing intimacy in worship, characterised by gratitude, moves us from the Temple’s outer gates, through its inner courts, to the immanence of God’s name (v 4). Here, in God’s presence, what bubbles up is hope – that who we have known God to be is who he will continue to be, even beyond us (v 5). Although it draws us inwards, can you feel the heart for ‘all the earth’ and ‘all generations’ that pulses outwards through this psalm?
Coming close to God in worship, we remember joyfully the day he made us his own; coming closer still, we anticipate expectantly the day when people from all times and all places will be caught up in one song.
How can you testify of his faithfulness to you?

How would you like to see this motion of worship – that pulls you into God’s presence and propels you out towards people – developing in your life?

Praise God for all the young people now coming to Rooted Kids Club at Faith Guide Lydia’s church. Please pray as she and SU Mission Enabler Neil Jackson seek to find ways to reveal Jesus to this very diverse group of young people, so that none miss out on the opportunity to explore and respond to his invitation to follow him.(This week's prayers relate to this article.)
