Mission partner safeguarding procedures

Mission Partner Safeguarding Procedures

Safeguarding policy:

Before the partnership is formed, Scripture Union (SU) will need to ensure that the mission partner trust has a safeguarding policy and that it is in line with SU’s requirements for best practice.

The safeguarding policy will be entirely the policy and responsibility of the mission partner trust; however, SU will be able to point them to relevant authorised organisations who can help them ensure that it's fit for purpose.

Safeguarding trustee as designated safeguarding lead:

SU will need to know who the designated safeguarding lead for the mission partner trust. This contact person needs to be known to SU Head Office as they are the person who will report any safeguarding concerns to the centre (as well as making any statutory safeguarding referrals as may be necessary).

The mission partner trust is responsible for doing its own safeguarding; however, SU Head Office may also be to offer support.

Safeguarding training:

The details of the type of training and how frequently it is undertaken is depended on each role. Each mission partner trust needs to work out for each role what training is required and how often it is refreshed.

Safer recruitment is central to safeguarding for any organization therefore your safeguarding policy must include details about safer recruitment. Safeguarding should be considered within the recruitment process both for volunteers as well as for paid workers.

Safeguarding concerns:

Safeguarding concerns need to be referred to the statutory authorities in the relevant locality.

The process for making referrals must be clearly detailed in your policy.
