WonderZone was Scripture Union’s holiday club for 2020. A brand new holiday club that looks at the wonderful world around us and the wonderful God who made it all; bringing science and faith together in beautiful harmony. This holiday club provided space for experiments, exploring and wondering about the universe and God Himself. Sam helped run WonderZone Online this summer.

“It was amazing to bring WonderZone Online into being. We had a fantastic team and were able to use the videos that the incredible team at SU Scotland put together for their online holiday clubs. The holiday club ran for 5 days at the end of August and provided space for children to explore science, the wonders of the universe, and the incredible God who not only made it all, but who also wants to get to know them. The team had lots of experience in running holiday clubs, but the big question was this: how do we make it work online?

“We spent a lot of time discussing the best time of day to meet, what platform to use, how and when to share the videos and how to get feedback - like the image below. It was all new to us as a team.”

“We chose to release the video links to parents and children beforehand to allow flexibility for each home to choose when they watched them – as long as it was before we then met together on Zoom it didn’t overly matter as we would always recap the Bible story and experiment when we met together. And feedback was amazing!"

“We met each day on Zoom for a very packed hour of activities, games, jokes, discussion, experiments and Bible exploration. Each day it was incredible seeing the children come out of their shells and thrive as they made crafts and asked deep questions about God and this wonderful universe He’s created. I was amazed at how well the children not only coped, but thrived, at this very different online holiday club. By the end of the week the children (and team) were so sad that WonderZone Online was coming to an end. We had bonded, despite being the other sides of screens, and we had journeyed a little bit further into knowing our incredible God and Saviour, Jesus.”

There were many holidays and events like this over the summer making up our SUmmer Online a wonderful success. Please do continue to pray for all the children that attended WonderZone Online, and also for all those who attended Scripture Union’s other online events over what was a very different summer season.
