Dan Wicks reflects on Ephesians 6 and being ready for battle.

Read: Ephesians 6

A few months back, we saw the release of the pinnacle film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)  - Avengers: Infinity War. Every film that has been released in the MCU has been gearing up to this movie. We saw a huge team of superheroes, from all walks of life, come together to fight the biggest, ugliest, nastiest villain in the MCU, Thanos.

For me, one of the most interesting stories in this film’s narrative was Hulk’s story. Throughout the whole movie, Bruce Banner was struggling to turn himself into the Hulk which meant that he was unable fight with the rest of the team who were desperately trying to save the world. When it came to the final battle, Bruce was really struggling; in his weak human form but Tony Stark (Iron Man) came to the rescue and offered Bruce a new suit of armour, the Hulk Buster, a large Iron Man suit, the same size as the Hulk, fully equipped to battle any enemy

suit

Tony Stark had been taught by his dad to always be prepared for battle; to always put on the Iron Man suit, or at least have one close to hand to be able to use in the war against evil.

Tony’s suit reminds me of Ephesians 6, It says that as a Christian I need to be ready to go out and fight in the places of darkness, to shine Jesus’ light wherever and whenever I can. I need to be ready to put God’s armour on and be willing to fight at all costs for people to know the good news of Jesus.

The armour of God is much greater than an iron man suit and gives me all I need to be ready for all that I may come across in doing what God has asked me to do. Like the Hulk I would have struggled if I had to do it with my weak human form but God like Tony has made his suit available so that I can be ready for anything and everything.

I love equipping churches and working with them to share the good news of Jesus with young people. I use sports and events to build relationships and I try to share the good news in a way that's relevant to young people who have never been in church before. I'd love to see churches passionate about working with young people and helping change their lives.
