Showing love to others...

Story type:

Showing love to others is something Jesus did in truly incredible ways. How can we learn from him? Join Karen Quinney as she reflects on Luke 6...

Read: Luke 6

Reflecting on my summer, I would say I’ve been blessed by people showing me and my family love and by me showing love to others…

In August we moved house, and it seemed very different from previous moving experiences. Probably because our 3 ½ year old wanted to help me pack the boxes, which was lovely, although frustrating as she only managed to half fill boxes and then inform me that the box was done. ‘Where’s the next box?’ she’d say. I would explain to her we could put more pieces in the box, even though I knew it wasn’t going to happen.  But still, during the move, she would say “I want to help you mummy”. This was her way of showing love during the moving process.

When the moving weekend finally arrived, a friend borrowed a van from work to help us out and we had some other friends who came to help us load up the van and then unload the other end. Another friend looked after our daughter for the day, someone else came with lunch to the new house for all who were helping, and then came back in the evening and provided us with a hot meal.

Even during the following weeks friends continued to ask if we needed help with anything.

Luke 6 is full of short stories of how Jesus helped people and in helping them he was showing them love. These stories inspire me to help others in ways that show them love.

Amidst my busy summer, I’ve been involved in a project with my church called ‘Make Lunch’.

Make Lunch happens up and done the country and is designed to enable and equip churches to ‘fill the holiday-hunger gap for children and their families during school holidays’ by providing free, hot and healthy meals to those who would otherwise go hungry.

It has been wonderful to bless others by sharing food together and building positive relationships.

Showing love to someone can be done in many different ways – small things can be just as significant as some of the bigger things I’ve mentioned above. It could be as simple as dropping someone a text to see how they are or inviting a friend round for a cup of tea.
